AT TEMUKA. A MOCK BANQUET. The Terauka Presbyterian Bible Masses held a mock banquet in the social hall on Tuesday evening, when f"? 11 *, 8 persons sat down to the bountifully spread tables, and spent a most enjoyable evening. Songs were rendered by. Misses Cooper. Guy, and Norton, Mr H. Bell, and Revs. Guy and Couch; recitations by Misses tooth, M. Hancox, and E. Childs; and violin solo by Mies Swap. Tho speeoh-innkin" was of a croditablo standard, and covered the following toast,list, the name of the proposer of each toast appearing first:— '-The King," chauinan (Rev. Guy): "Tho Governor," Mr ,T. Monahan; "N.Z. Parliament," Miss Swap, Messrs W. J. Davey, and C. Ferguson; "Bible Classes," Misses E. G. Miles, Russell, and Mr A. Calderj "Agrcultural Pursuits," Miss A. Cook, Messrs W. H. Davoy, A. Mills; "Local Bodies," Mias Cooper, Messrs H. Bell and D. Elder; "The Ladies." Mr A. Mclnnes, Misses Roulston, Maze, and Childs; "Our Ministers," Miss Jaokso'n, Rovfc. Couch., Guy, and Maubnald; "The Visitors/' Mr H. J. Prattloy, Mr A. Botting. Miss Molnnes- "K : ndred Societies/' Messrs G. Burborough, R. Longßon, A. Shaw; "Local Industries," Messrs A. Dnggan and E. G. Hancox; "Sports," Rev. Couch, Mr D. Shaw; "Chairman," Miss Brown, Rev. J. Guy; "The Press," Rev. J. Guy, and pressmen. The banquet was most successful. MOCK DIVORCE CASE. A mock court case was the subject matter of a very pleasant couple of

hours spent on Tuesday evening by the members and friends of St. Peter's Club, Temuka. The Parish Hall was oomfortably filled. Tho divorce proceedings created much amusement, and the verdict, "£IOOO damages for the plaintiff," was as just as just could be. Tho evidence revealed a. shocking instability on the part of tho defendant, though his defence "the insanity of the plaintifF' was instrumental in rescuing him from a verdict for the full claim of £3OOO damages. The- part-acting throughout was jg'ood, the plaintiff's demure blushes winning her considerable sympathy. ' The parts taken were as follows: —Plaintiff, "Miss Pankhurst" (Mr V. Morris); defendant, Mr F. Smith ;' counsel for plaintiff, Messrs W. H. Reeves and W. F. Evans; counsel for defendant, Messrs J. Chapman and G. Proudlock; judge, Mr R. R. Martin - } jury, Nurse Brown, Mrs Martin, Miss E. Pilbrow, Messrs P. Talbot, C. Williams, and J. Pearse; usher, Mr J. Moore. ■■ Referring to tho verdict, counsel for the defendant admitted that the defendant had got off cheap; he (counsel) would not marry tha plaintiff for £IO,OOO. .
