SACK FROM AND FOR SULTAN.
♦ PARIS FINDS A JOKE. IN THJE BALKAN BLAZE. Here is a story from Paris that ;it le.'ist ought to bo true. Wlum the Sultan of 'llu-key gave orders for the mobilisation of his troops he sent to tho King of Bulgaria a sack of millet, with the following letter:— "Forinanr Effendi, —Mobilises if von like, but be fissured that there are as many soldiers in Turkey as there are grains of millet in this sack. Now if you wish ; declare war." The King of Bulgaria's reply was in kind. He sent a very much smaller Back filled with the tiny grains -of a most virulent red pepper of -Jio country. '•Tschouski," it is called, and it does not belio its name, for its ell'ect is that of a very vigorous snuff. With it wont the following dedication: "Dear Mister Sultan.—Tho Bulgarians are not numerous, it is true, but be assured tlii't to stick your noso into their affairs is like sticking it into our national condiment. Try it and see. They'll sting you so sharply that the whole of Asia will not be able to you." A pleasing thought, this, of two rival monarchs mutually giving each other tho Back.
