MORVEN NOTES.

(Fiumi Our Own Correspondent.) A pleasant time was spent in the Alorven hall on Thursday evening, when presentations were made to Mr and Mrs Ancell, the popular stationmaster and his wife, who are well known and much liked throughout this district.

The chair was filled by Mr T. L. Hart, who explained that their guests were not leaving tho district as was expected some time ago. Mr Ancell so much liked Morven that he had refused promotion rather than go to a district which was not so congenial to him. Mr Hart expressed pleasure in the thought that they could thus show their appreciation of Mr and Mrs Ancell, and also retain them in the district.

A. short musical programme then followed, the following performers rendering valuable assistance. Miss Dclahunt (overture) Messrs W. A. Nelson, Geo. Peck, K. Sinclair, J. K. Blair and little A! is* F.na Miles (solos).

There were several complimentary speeches expressing the best wishes of all. and emphasising the many good qualities of Mr and Mrs Ancell, the former as statioumaster, member of tennis club, hall trustee, auditor of the public bodies, and the, latter as president of the Anglican Ladies' Guild, church worker, and both supporters of everything for the welfare of tho district. The following were the speakers: Messrs K. Blair, and Beer, on behalf of the general public, ftev. C. C> Oldham (church), Messrs MeAteer (Morven Athenaeum), Hart (tennis club). Costello and Nelson (commercial), Hay (farmers). Airs Ancell was then presented by Alts Forbes, with an oak salad bowl and a, silver spirit kettle, and Air Al. C. Ancell, by Air G. E. AlarshalL with a handsome gold watch. (Cheers and applause) Air Ancell, feelingly replied and expressed sincere thanks on behalf of Airs Ancell and himself. He hoped that he would be as good a stationm-.vster as the speakers had described him as being, but he was afraid he was not. Alorven people had always been very kind to hint and his. and m the future lie wouid do his very best to merit the golden opinions expressed by all that evening, lie considered the large gathering in itself a very great compliment. He specially thanked the ladies who had done a gi'eit deal of work in arranging the tables and providing refreshments and thereby enhancing the. pleasure of tha proceedings. Alter supper a few hours were pleasantly spent in da luring and playing cards, then the gathering quietly dispersed. Appreciation is thus not always shown alter the opportunity has practically flown. On Tuesday evening the meeting of the Loyal Morven Lodge was held, CM. Bro. Alarshall presiding. During the evening one new member was initiated into the mysteries of Oddietlowship. and another was proposed, and approved of. P.M. Bro. E. Stokes was installed as N.C.. to fill the vacancy caused bv the departure from the district of *N.G. Bro. Andrews. A ..ielegat- was t bo-en to attend a special meeting to be held at Timarn, on December I.2th. The rainfall registered at Alorven school for the month of November was l.iW inches making a total of 2.">.!>8 for ill, eleven months, that for die corresponding period of 11)11 being 15.39.
