It was mi-' fair to ask the general taxpayer"'to make up such deficits. In \he next few years the Government iiad to arrange for the conversion and lCJiewal of 15 or 1G million pounds' worth of debentures, a great deal of which had' been raised in London. Until these arrangements were made it •■vouTd b<s impossible to say what could be done for suburban and local bodies. He proposed to remove the £SOOO limitation at the earliest possible moment, but it could r.ot bo done yet. 1 EXPENDITURE AUTHORISED. WELLINGTON, Nov. 27. The Cabinet authorised the expenditure of the' following amounts —Foundations of Parliament Buildings, £3000; South Island Main Trunk, x'iOOO; Auckland Grammar School, £6OOO aiid £6990 in 1914; Midland railway .C 4000; Coal Crerk railway extension, £4007; Otago Central Irrigation,- '1000; Lawrence-Roxburgh railway, £2OGO; Lake Coleridge works, -flfl'8; railway rolling "stock. £6000; twenty miles of aerial cables, £3Bll. r he Cabinet also a-erced .that the Onehunga wharf should lie sold to the"AucklandHarbour Board. CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSIONERS.. The- following are appointed Civil Service Commissioners under the Act Xiassed last session :• — Mr Donald Robertson, 1.5..0..,. secretary to the Post Office (Chief; Commissioner) .
