Wo believe that no other country" in tho world shows the same progressiveness in the matter of patents as does New- Zealand. There are more applications made here per 1000 of the population than in any other country, the United States not excepted. It is true that many of these are Soar provisional protection only, and may never be completed, but the fact remains that the Inventive faculty is there and will not be quiescent-. A .gfreateff- percentage of patents turn, out better than is generally imagined. A patentee finds it more convenient to keep lus business to liimself. He has a money-making monopoly, and he intends to preserve it. That is the reason why tiie general public do not hear of the successes. But- they are there, quietly returning their profits to the patentees. If anyone personally interested would like to know abuut suin-e successful inventions, let them call on Heurv Hughes.
