Full details bad .been sent to the Board in reference to the improvements required at the school. ; A letter was received from the Town Clerk stating thao the Bor >ugh Council liad no power to grant the request of the committee to bo allowed to erect rails outside the school gate on Trafalgar street with. a- view to preventing the children from running straight out on ihe street. This reply was considered strange, in. view of the fact that lii« Council allows the erectio 1 of rails ortside the post office and other places, to tie up horses. • It was decided to again approach the Council and explain that tKe rails are required to cliecic 'the children as they run out of the school grounds so that they may be sav =d from the danger of beiug run over bv motor oars. ; A letter wsa received from the Education Board granting the committee's request for various imprcvoroents at the school and grounds. A letter was received w : tli expressions of approvni, the committee agreeing that the Board had treated them well. It was decided to call tenders for fencing the school grounds with corrugated iron on Kelland's and O'Callagban's boundaries, and for, it wire fenoe on Gow's boundary. It'was also decided to Gall tenders, for fencing the school gardens with 6ft. netting, all tenders to be in bv July 15. It was ngrr>f*d that the street frontage should be re-fenced, alternate tenders to be called. The headmaster reported that the roll number tyns 434, and average attendance for the past had been 394. The attendant e> had not been so good during. tli3 past four weeks owing to the bad weather. Soma single desks for the new i».fant room, and a cupboard had been supplied by the Education Board. He suggested that the committee should purchase a, mimoograpli for use in the school. The suggestioa was adopted, up to £3 to be paid for the instrument. Messrs Penrose, Murray, Currie t Harrisron and Kcowles were appointed a Ball Committee for the ball to be held next month. Messrs Evans and Currio were appointed visitors for the ensuing month. Accounts amounting to £4 4s Id were passed for payment. Mr Joyce said he thought the Main School Committee hud fought the battle for the rest of the schools in connection with the giving of religious instruction in schools, and he suggested that the Waimataitai committee should thank them. [t was decided that it would be better for the AVajmataitai << mmittee to take no part in the matter, as they were not involved. Tli3 chairman mentioned that it was a genuine pleasure to see the way the school marched in the profession, anJ they way thiy behaved generally, at the Coronation celebrati' 'is. (Hear hear.) The headmaster and staff muse ha,ve gone to a good deal of trouble in training the children. A hearty-vote of thanks *as passed to the headmaster and *f->f on this account.
