The Hon. James Carroll, M.P., Act-ing-Premier of New Zealand, wall be given & welcome by the Maoris at Temuka on Monday'next at 11*30.a.m. Sir Joseph Ward (says the Southland l Times) has, been appointed honorary colonel of the-Bth Regiment Southland Mounted Rifles, that is of the mounted Territorial troops in the Southland area group.
The "Dominion" states that Mr Martin Kennedy will act as deputychairman of the Bank of New Zealand during Mr Beaudhamp's absence from the Dominion.
• The Hon. J. A. Millar was' unable to represent the Government at the Dunedin Coronation oelebrations owing to ill health. His medical advise* has ordered him three or four days' complete rest.
A West Coast exchange announces that Mr T. Otto Bishop, A.V.S.M.j a graduate of the Otago School of Mines, has been appointed .Government In-, spec tor of .Mines for the Kumara district. For some time past Mr Bishop has been practising as a consulting Engineer at Grreymeuth.
Messrs F. R, Gllingham (chairman), W. S. Maslin, and H. S. Russell 1 (secretary), leave ?or Wellington to-mcr-row to represent the South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid' Board at the Dominion Hospital Conference, which is to be opened on .Monday.
At the last- meeting of the Gteraldine City Council feeling reference was made to the death, of the late Mr A. Kel--iiian, who had been a very valued member of that body. The chairman (Mr G. J. Demiisteun) said that he had sat -on the Council for a great many years with the late Mr Kelman and he had alwaj-s found him a loyal and painstaking member, who furthered their work as much as possible. He moved—"That the Counoil desires to express sincere sympathy with. Mrs Kelman and the members of her family at the loss of her husband." Mr Kelman had been a member of the Council for seventeen years and had always done his duty. The members greatly deplored his loss r«s a councillor and friend. Tiie resolution was signed by all the members and was carried in silence. The Council then adjouni-sd for half an hour as a mark of respect.
