GREAT THUNDERSTORM.

A spell of tropical heat culminated in a series of thunderstorms in the Home counties. Streets in many places were flooded. The Epsom crowd returned from the races in a sorry plight. Lightning killed two policemen and three other race-goers. Altogether seven deatlis are reported already, and many more persons were severely injured by lightning. Two of the city churches were struck. Tho underground railway was flooded, and the electric system was short circuited by water. AN EXCITED MENAGERIE. An extraordinary scene occurred at Rostock's "Jungle" at the White City. The thunder infuriated somo pumas, who attacked and mauled a lady trainer. Tho pavilion was crowded with people escaping the torrential rain, and there was £reat excitement. The trainer was rescued by attendants using crowbars.
