CORONATION MEMORIAL.
To the .Editor of the "Timaru Herald.'' Sir,—l notice from a report which appeals in your i-ssue <>l .Yesterday's date, that ii is practwally agreed between "his Worship tho Mayor " and | the footballers of South Canterbury, that a rotunda, bo erected m tlio Park as a memorial to commemorate the i Coronation, and that iiis Worship the Mayor has promised to donate £-0 towards the erection of sumo, tho balance to bo subscribed by tlu> public, and from proceeds of Thursday, 15tU June, football matches,, up to £l6O, whiuh amount, would earn the Governuient subsidy. Th's may bo a vory good way to oommomorato tlie great event in Timaru, but to my mind their is a hotter and more suitable way of i ommonuirating tho Coronation, and that is to build a lecture room for tho St. John Ambulance Corps, which, in my opinion is far more suitable and than a third baud rotunda. Therefore, I would suggest to his Worship tlio Mayor, and the footballers ;»i* Canterbury, and the public-, •bt ;• ic'.furcr ro<"»m be,erected on 5o;i":o suitable section for the E St. .fci;!! Ambulance Corns. Ac the I |-.r<';v i,t time tho corps has no room ' «.•*,.% pi ix-rvUxl one, 'which they are ] I."«i per uvelc for, neitJidr have fl tlii'.v ;i to stow away their I >. Therefore, seeing the H >\nrk the ambulance doss for the gj i" nolr. ut tho people of Timaru, foot- g Uii!crs and othcis, 1 think it would be B iar more appropriate and more> iu E keeping with this great event to'have " a lecture room erected for the corps, a thing that is uvuch more needed, and 1 more useful than a third bund rotunda. However, as this is a public matter, J I would lilco some of the public to express their opinion through tlie medium of your: paper, whether or not a nice building is not more suitable, and mor? in keeping .with <the commemorating o[ the Coronation, and for the welfare of the people of Timnru, and also for the enlightenment and advancement of this noble corps of workera, than a third hand rotunda in Timtiru. As already stated, this being a matter which interests the public, 1 would like to see an abler pen than mine express some .views on this very important subject. —X am. etc., " i [ W. ANGLAND. i | Timaru, May 2G, 1911. < /r ' -
