GOLF.
11l the House of Commons recently, Mr. Greene asked the Prime Minister whether he would cousider the> possibility of introducing legislation with a view to mitigating the growing evil by which a very large number of youths., at the age of leaving school anil when they ou'ght- to be learning a useful trade, were employed as golf caddies, thereby learning to lead a precarious existence. Mr. Churchill, who replied to the question, .said: "This is a very useful and importnnt_no:nt. The occupation of a golf caddie'is peculiarly ununited to young r>ersoite and peculiarly suitable for adults not strong enough for active labour or partially incapacitated for some cause. If golf clubs would gradually adopt the practice of malting use of the Labour Exchanges when engaging new. caddies, my right Jicn. friend .the Presid-ant of the Board of Trade would probabk- beable to supply them with exactly* the proper class of person'and to ston altogether the misdirection of youth"" Tho general questW of juvenile employments is now under consideration bv the Home Government. In Now Zealand the renditions are different because so few golfers play during the week that the caddies" are not taken away from either their trade or their school. . .
