SECONDARE SCHOOLS.
CONFERENCE OF TEACHERS. RESOLUTIONS AND DISCUSSIONS. A conference of secondary school teachers was held in Wellington on Thursday last. Among the resolutions passed were the following:— "That tho Executive Committee of the Association be urged to consider tlfe best method of securing mt>re adequate salaries for secondary school assistants, and in view, of the statement, of tho Education Department that governing bodies of secondary schools are not payiug salaries proportionate to grants received, the Association be urged to collect information bearing upon the point, and press the matter still further." ';That the Defenc-9 Department be approached, with /the object of having provision mado for all cadet' work in the secondary schools to be done during ordinary schools hours or for those mastor* who may have to take the work outside ordinary school hours to receive extra remuneration." - "That there should be one assistant- for every twenty-five pupils." '
