THE SCHOOL ELECTION.
WASHDYKE. The annual niesting of householders was held in the schoolroom oil Monday evening,' when was a fair manbe r present, including three ladies. it. Plarr>s was voted to the chair, and read the anuual ivpoit and balance-shoet.
Th-3 -report stated that the voar con-.nieiiced with a roll of 74 and averago of 68, -and closed with these numbers raised to 04 and 80 respectively. The increase was due to the shifting of the school and tlxe occupation ot--Meadows .Settlement. Early last-year the comm.tteo set to vorjc to have a new school built. A deputation waited on the Board, and eventually a. new school waa built on a new site of five acres and'was opened on December 16th; the annual picnic vlay. A well-built shelter shed had been addcd at a-, cost of £22, of which £ls had been rn.sed locally. The inspectors report on the school was highly satisfactory.. the headmaster being stated to be doing excellent work, which the eonimitt'e© unanimously endorsed. A new house on the. school ?ection. was required, for tho headmaster, and should be applied for without delay, ■and t lie re was plenty of work for. the new committee ;n fencing, prepurin ,r gardens, et;\ The committee, thanked die many friends who had helped to nuke the entertainments for - raising funds so successful, and the report conr.-mded with remarks on the enti-e----iy eord:al relat.ons- between the committee and the staff. - The balance sheet" showed the total receipts for the year at £77 las, inojudiug a cred t balance carried of £o 16s :2d. Tlie principal items were incidentals £lB 10s, grant for shelter shed etc., £lO Is lid, contributions to prize fund £ll 2s 9d, proceeds from ontertainments etc., and letting of fiCijopl £3l lis 2d. The expenditurelist showed that ,£l2 os was paid for school cleaning, £3 16s for fuel, £22' for shelter.shed, £ll 13s 4d memorial scholarship fund, leaving a credit balance' of. £l2 8s 6d.
Tho report ,and balancd-slieet were adopted. Tlie Headmaster submitted to the householders a circular from the Teachers' Institute asking that the meeting support a Dominion scheme for iiromotion of teachers, ."which, was unanimously curried.
j I ] cart y of ■-thanks being accorded to the outgoing commitee, tlip ejection of a new committee was proceeded, with, when the following members- were elected—Messrs V, Cooper E. Cartwright, H. R. Harris, R. Peebles, J. Henderson,' R Dawe, T. Connollv. At a m&eting of the committee iield artorwarcfs Mr H. R. Harris was elected chairman.
