The wheat market is firm and the demand improving, especially for the Continent, owing to unfavourable crop reports from Russia. . Three Australian cargoes havo been sold at 33s Od, 33s IUJd and 34s respectively. Holders are asking 33s M for New South Wales steamer March shipment and South Australian sailer'shipment, and 33s Cd for Victorian parcels afloat. A small business is doing in Australian on spot at 36s 3d. Flour is quiot and unchanged.

CHRISTCHURCH, April 21. Locally there is very littlo wheat offering; no sales of any consequenceare taking place. The nominal price is 3s at country stations, though somo shippers are not inclined to offer more than 2s lid, but there are few sellers at oven 3s "it present. Those farmers who are in a position to hold are willing to wait till a more favourable turn in tho market. Tho samo disposition is manifest on the part of New South Wales wheat growers. There is nothing fresh to report in the local oat market, as there are but few available for sale, and prices are firm. The markot has also firmed in Southland, and 2s 2d on trucks at country stations is being paid. Oat-shoaf chaif is advancing in price on account of the approach of winter, and tho shortage of feed. Tho quotation is now 80s to 82s 6d on trucks, and it is reported' that for an extra pnmo sample more has been paid. Thero has been an improved demand for potatoes, and £3 10s is now being paid at country stations for the main crop. Tho bulk of the later crop consists of white varietioß, thero being but few derwonts now grown. Tho crop is turning out well, both as to yield and quality. Shipments are khv being made from Oamaru, the damage done by the potato fly not being so serious as was expected, and is "confined chiefly to- the potatoes showing above tho surface. The N.Z.L. and M.A. Company have received tlie following cable message from their London Office, under date 19th inst.: —"An Australasian parcel of wheat has been sold at 33s lid, c.i.f. The market is quiet but steady owing to unfavourable crop reports. Outlook discouraging." Dnlgety and Co. have .received the following cable dated London 20th:— "Rather better demand for frozen lamb, but supplies are heavy and prices of New Zealand are.lower by l-16d to >d per lb, except Canterbury, which is unchanged. Frozen mutton and beef are in poor demand at prices somewhat in buyers' favour." PROPERTY TRANSACTIONS. The local ■ produce markets have scarcely recovered from the lull occasioned by the. Easter holidays, and there is, consequently, very little business doing. Wheat.—There is little activity in the wheat market, although millers are buying quietly. The price ruling is 3s 2d for mixed sorts, delivered in Timaru. Next week, bv the steamers Kent. Norfolk, and Indraburah. soma 16,000 sacks of wheat will be shipped for Home. All wheat space in these boats has been filled. Outs. —In oats, there is practically nothing doing. The ruling price, nominally, is 2s 2d per bus'el for Cartons, delivered in Timaru, and one l>enny extra for good, heavy Duns.
