A novel contest was fought out between two young residents of Timaru tho other morning, and great interest was taken in local sporting circles regarding tho result. The contest was between a motor cyclist and a wheelman mounted on an" ordinary bicycle. The man on the motor cycle left Winchester (sixteen miles from Timaru) at a given time, and at the same moment the cyclist left Arowhenua. The cyclist was paced by a motor cycle, and covered the distance at a very rapid rate, for he finished one minute sooner than the motorist.
