.Weather summary and forecast: Except in. the southernmost districts the weather has been unsettled and cloudy, and showers hare fallen in many, parts of the North Island. Strong south-easterly winds have prevailed in the north, but variable elsewhere, and squally conditions ruled last night in Cook Strait. The bi rometer has been unsteady. Present indications are for strong easterly winds in and northward of Cook Strait, and variable elsewhere. The barometer will- probably fall temporarily everywhere. The conditions are likely to remain unsettled for a short period, especially in the North Island, vfceie showers are probable at times.'' Evidence in support- of the charge was given by Macaulay and McGinrpsey was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and - fined 20s, and witness's expenses 12s, in default four days on tho second charge.

Threshing is nearly over in the Marlborough district, as the acreage in crop was not large this year. More land than usual has been sown with rape and grass, and most of the oats crops have been reserved for chaff. Some of the barley Jias threshed out light, owing to the work of the caterpillars, but the yields will probably be about the same as other years. The scarcity of labour in Marlborough, has never been more marked than it is at the present time. This refers more particularly to farm labourers, there being generally a very good demand for men accustomed to farm work.

The weekly meeting of the Life Boat Lodge, No. 101, 1.0. G.T., was held last evening, the C.T., Bro. J. W. Barrio presiding over a good attendance. Two candidates were proposed, and initiated. Correspondence was read from the No--License League soliciting the lodge's assistance in carrvino- out aggressive work. Bros. Ellis, Muchmore and Lowry were appointed a Committee to select matters to be placed on the order paper for the coming Grand Lodge sessions. The lodge was thrown open to visitors at an early hour, when several friends availed themselves of tlie opportunity to show their appreciation of the lodge's work, as well as to spend a social hour with the members, who contributed songs, recitations, and musical items, in a pleasing manner. Not the least enjoyable part of the evening was an inspiring address by Mr Chisholm, iuk license organiser.' The C.T. thanked the visitors for their presence, and the organiser for his helpful address. The programme for next meeting will be an impromptu debate,- which will be conducted by Bro. S. Muchmore and Claughton.
