LONDON SALES. CLOSED. Press Association —By Tel. —Copyright Received 11.40 p.m., Feb. Bth. LONDON, Feb. 8. . The attendance at the wool sales was remarkably well sustained. Choice merinos closed at par with the December sales; medium declined 6 per cent., faulties 10 to 15; good scoureds 7£ per cent. Crossbreds weakened during the sales, closing at par to 5 per cent, below December rates; medium 10 to 15, coarse 7£ to 10. Good lambs were firm, while faulty declined sto per cent. At the lower rates competition was' good, with signs of returning confidence. During the sales 113,000 were taken for Home markets, 66,000 for the Continent, 4000 for the United States, and 17,000 were held over.

PRIVATE ADVICES. Tlie Bank of New Zealand have reoeived the following cable from London regarding the wool sa'.es: —"The sales close firm , for all kinds of wool. Total quantity held over 18.000 bales, of which 5000 bales are New Zealand." The National Mortgage and Agency Company reoeived the following cable from their London Office:—"Crossbreds? medium, closed on a par with opening rates. Crossbreds, coarse, cios-ed weak on a par "with opening rattes." Dalgety and Co. received the following cable yesterday: "The wool sales closed firm and active, with brisk competition. As compareo with closing rates of last series poured morino wools of good quality and condition are 5 per cent, lower; other scoured merino 7* to. 10 per cent, lower: greasy merino wools of good quality pud condition are unchanged. Other descriptions of greasy merino 5 per c*nt lower. Greasy cr<>esbred wools of f quality, 5 per cent. lower; medium 7 to 10 ner cent, lower; and coarse 5 to 7* per cent, lower. Scoured 'cross, bred" wools are unchanged. Sline v7ools are 5 to 7\ per tent, lower. The total net quantity available for the sale amounted to 198.000 bales., of which 111,000 bales were sold fnr home crnsumption, 66,000 bales to the Continent, and 4000 bales to America. leaving 17.000 bales to be .carried forwnrd, of which 10,000 bales were not offered."
