WeUter, the only cue to start from scratch, filled second place after a very meritorious performance with the breast stroke. The ladies were heartily applauded. There was. also a race for school girls, the 25 yards girls' championship of South j Canterbury. Unfortunately in this [ tiere was a paucity of entries, cnly j two coming forward—Misses JD: and T; , Webster. After a first-class contest I tho former beat her sifter by an inch 0 * two. The winner used the breast ! stroke, and the other, the trudge stroke. The 100 Yards Inter-Club Handicap was a very interesting evcait. For it a first prize ol £*2 2s was given, and a second of £1 Is. It was got off in heats, the iirst two in each heat to ouaiify for the final. It resulted as fellows : —First heat—H. Bennetts 14 see 1, J. Olphert 7sec 2. Others starter?. were—H. H. Fraser scr, A. S. Duff jj?ec, J. Dalgloish 7sec, and J. Hullen ...sec. Bennetts led all the way. Time, 2.26 Second heat—o.
