Tincknell, a mailman, and Lowa, a boy, were crossing a flooded creek at Now Gayndah, when the buggy capsized and both were drowned. QUEENSLAND CABINET. BRISBANE, Feb. 7. Mr Kidston lias resigued his seat, and a new Cabinet has been formed. It is reported that ftlr Kidston has accepted a position on the Land Board at £IOOO a year for 15 yeans. A LOCAL OPTION PROBLEM. Received 9.30 p.m., Feb. 7th. SYDNEY, Feb. 7. The Licensed Victuallers' Association intend' to test the question whether certain hotels in an electorate which carried reduction in 1907, but reversed the decision at last- election by a voto {or continuance of nil existing licenses, must be closed. The Association is ftTfcified by a legal opinion which claims that the last vote nullified the 1907 vote. LASCAR DESERTERS. MELBOURNE., Feb. 7.
Twenty-eight Lascars deserted fTora the steamer Aparima, owing to the captain placing their countrymen under restraint for insxibordiaation. The deserters marched the streets in a body. The police intercepted them at Newport, and they were removed to tlio lock-up. The captain would bo responsible for fines totalling £2BOO, if tlio deserters escaped. Two and a half inches of rain fell at Praliran in 25 minutes. THE AUSTRALIAN NAVY. Received 12.55 a.m., Feb. Bth. SYYDNEY, Feb. 7. It is expected that the Australian destroyer TVarTego, now being put to-n-other in Sydney, will be launched on March 24th.
