ACETYLENE FATALITIES.

SYDNEY, Feb. 5.
Mr Edwards, Member of the Federal House for North Sydney, and a man named Graham, were overhauling an acetylene plant at Edwards' residence, when an explosion occurred, and both were killed instantly. The explosion blew the bodies several yards, and wrecked the shed. Edwards was apparently standing over the tank watching the repairs. His death will bo a severe loss to the Federal Opposition, of which he was ono of the most prominent and strongest members. An old settler of Kaitui, Dargaville, J. B. Smith, committed suicide by shooting himself. &:s boj' on returning frera tho creamery found his father dead in iho cowshed. Smith had sent a will to his solicitor, with :■ letter concluding "When you get this I shall he dead.:' He had been in bad health.
