SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
ILMARU MAIN. I Tho monthly meeting of tho Timaru Main School Committee, held last evening, was.attended b.v M r A. ANilson (m the chair), Rev. J. Olphert (racrctory), Messrs Pearson, RudclifTe, Robertson, Stead, Vogler and liurmcster. The headmaster reported that the school had re-opened with a good at. tendance—7oo. The senior pupil loachei's, Misses Iverach, Hunt ancl Moyle, having left, their places wore filled by Misses F. Kick mail and-L. Jlawkes and Mt L. Chappie. .V,%~ one new pupils had been admitted. Most of the pupils in Standard VI. had left, as all passed except tliroe, most of thorn gaining proficiency certificates. In tho Education Board s Scholarship Examinations three pupils, Eva Day, Keith Dalglish nml Stanley , Satterthwaite passed, being first, third, and tenth on tho list respectively, and tho first two were awarded scholarships. The shootina -team .of tho School Cadets succeodod in winning the South Island Challenge : Shield—for tho first time. Capt. Collins was to he congratulated on his success in reaching tho boys- for this match. Mr ]3a!glish supported an application by Miss io<lu for six months' leave of absence. He would like, through ibe Committee to thank the Timaru "Herald" Company for supplying copies of the ''lmiaru Herald" free to the teixth Standard pupils during tho last term of last year, Fresh regulations gazetted had jirevented the school' from getting the additional teacher expected at tho ber of lust quarter; but the regulations did not apply to anv subsequent quarter, and they should shortly be entitled to another assistant. Tlio Committee passed a resolution congratulating, the winners of scholarships, and the headmaster (Mr Dal. telish). and Captain Collins, on the success of the Cadets in winning the South Island Shooting Shield. The Committee decided to support Miss Smkh's application for six months leave of absence to attend the Otago University, provided a suitable relieving teacher can be found. It was resolved to have the shooting team photographed, and a copy presented to each member of the team; u'so a framed one to Captain Collins* and another to tho school. The shield will probably be presented at some public function, if possible when His Excellency the Governor is revisiting the district. . s _• __ -.., Accounts amounting to £42 lis 4a were parsed for payment.
