ATHLETICS.
NEW- ZEALAND CYCYLING AND ATHLETIC UNION. A meeting of the executive of the New 'Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union was held in Mr Hardings office, Christchurch, on Thursday last, lres-enfr-Mr J. Kennedy (chairman) and four other members. Before commencing the business Mr Burgess, on behalf of the Christchurcn Executive, thanked the whole Execu-tive-in-calling the meeting at Christchurch. - He also reported that the North Canterbury Centre were working very harmoniously together and were going to be one of the strongest centres affiliated to the Union. _ The first business brought berore the meeting was the awarding of the medal to be given by the Union to the competitior whoso performances were considered the best at the late championship meeting at Timaru. Mr Harding moved, and Mr Burgess seconded, that the medal be awarded to 'Mr G. Campbell, South Canterbury centre, as they consider his performance in the following events to be far and away above any of the others: — High jump handicap, actual jump 6 feet; high jump championship, actual jump, oft llin; pole jump championship, 10ft lOin; pole jump handicap, 10ft 4in. A quantity of correspondence from the Otago Centre, relating to a Southland meeting and other matters was dealt with. It was decided to transfer the bank account from Oamaru to Timaru, and the president and secretary were given authority to sign all cheques. It was resolved that in future all communications with the Executive must go through the secretary or they will not be acknowledged. The Dunlop Tyre Company, wrote making an application to take over the running of the Christchurch to Timaru road race, the race to be run under the Union's patronage and supervision. —The matter to be placed before the whole of the Executive to get information. It was resolved that each Centre be written to asking them to define their boundaries. Messrs Harding and Burgess were requested to try and arrange for amateur cycling championships. MrW. ~L. Oldiuan applied for the following cycling unpaced records: — Chrjstchurcli to Duncdin, 14 hours 52 minutes 51 seconds; Christchurch to ralmerston South, l'ihrs 7m;n; Christohurelt to Uaiuaru, 91irs 20mins; Christchurch t« Timurn, Ohrs. Mr Orlowski applied for a- mote-paced one mile record, lmin 42 4-ssee. —Both applications were granted. It was resolved that the rules of the X.Z. A. Union and of the N.Z. League of Wheelmen Ik? adopted conjointly; and that the new lxidy apply for affiliation with the International Cyclist Union. Correspondence regarding disqualifications by Northern Centres was dealt with. Some applications for removal of disqualifications were granted, on condition that a re-iiistatement fee of 5? was paid, and in one case on condition that £G won after disqualification be refunded.
