CRICKET.
TIMARU V. CELTIC. Tho wcathor at 10 a.m. yesterday looked hopeless from a cricketer's point of view, hut fortunately it oleared up and enabled a full, afternoon's game to be played between tho above named clubs. Tho Celtic skipper, lmring the choice of innings, to tho surprise of his opponents, put tltc-m in. _ Tho wicket, being slushy, played easily until near tho end of the innings, when it began to kiok at one or.d. Campbell played carefully until tie lashed out at a straight one from Pation, and missed it. Fisher, contrary to liia custom, played very quietly, which under the circumstances was the game. He was unfortunate in being ran out by his partner. L. O'Callaghan, who is a fast improving man, ploying with his old-time freedom, hi ado 42, including one lovely 6 over tho southern fence. Celtic woro unfortunate, in having to plaj on a drying wicket, and also in loKifig their captain, who waß given out l.b.w. to a ball which he played with his glove. J. Lynoh played a fine defensive game, carrying lus bat without making a mistake. O'Callaghan was the most disturbing factor, with four wickets for 12 runs. Most aoceptablo tea was provided by lady friends of th<> Oeltio Club. TIMARU.—Ist Innings.
