CHESS.
CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. TO BE HELD AT TIMAHTJ, The first meeting of the management committee in connection with the forthcoming New Zealand Chess championship was held last evening at W'erry s Temperance Hotel. There ivere present—Messrs G. P. Wood (.local Captain), X. D. Young, E. Werrv, A. Patterson A. Beck, and T. Mara. Mr Wood reported having secured the Technical School for the holding of the Congress, and the members present expressed their thanks to the directors of that institution, for their ready assistance. It'was decided that the Congress be opened on Monday, 'iSth December. The local club will be represented by its present honorary secretary, Mr T. Mara. The greater part of the meeting was conlined to a discussion on the rules and laws incidental to the obligations of the "management committee" of a New Zealand Congress. In conclusion the chairman expressed the hone that all chess enthusiasts would rise" to the occasion and assist pecuniarilv the committee in their endeavour to foster and promote t&e noble game of chess.
