OPENING. OF THE SESSION. THE GOVERNOR'S SPEECH. Ttoss Association-By Telegraph-Copyright Received 8.20 p.m.. Nov. 16th. SYDNEY, Nov. 16. Mr Cann dispensed with the Speaker's official robes, and a number of other small innovations in regard to formalities marked the commencement of Labour rule. The Governor's Speech promised a brief session. It referred to the continuance of prosperous seasons and the buoyancy of the revenue. The finances would have to be arranged' to meet a serious diminution of revenue from the Commonwealth which the State would shortly have to face. In future accounts would be prepared showing the receipts and expenditure in the public business undertakings and the sale of public assets, separate from the ordinary accounts for the general government services. The eight Independent members of the Assembly met and decided to support the Government so long as its proposals were in the interests of the whole eommunitv.
ADDRESS IN REPLY. A HOSTILE AMENDMENT. Received 12.55 a.m.. Nov. 17th. SYDNEY, Nov. 16 The Council adopted the Address in Reply. In the Assembly Mr Lee moved an amendment regretting the conduct of the Government in connection with the administration of the Public Lands, in refusing jjeople the right to acquire in future the freehold of such lands for settlement purposes, as inimical' to the best interests of the State. After some Trarm discussion, the debate and the House adjourned, till tomorrow. •
