FARMERS AND POLITICS.

AN IMPORTANT PROPOSAL. An important proposal for the organisation of the. faruieis of Canterbury, with the view of political action, came before the executive of North. Canterbury Farmers' Union on .Wednesday. The matter was taken in committee, and the following report of the proceedings was supplied by the secretary. " (1) That the organisation of voters in other industries has made it necessary that farmers should organise for their own protection, politically, independent of party, since politicians largely form their opinions to suit the largest organised section of voters. " (2) That to carry out this organisation a fund should be established, to be called 'The Farmers' Political Protection Fund.' ■ t (3) That a committee of five should be appointed by the executive to administer this fund, and to arrange tor carrying out the work of organisation by appointing organisers, and in other ways." In seconding the motion for the adoption of the report.
