FAIRLIE NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The effects of the drizzle which fell for a tew hours on Saturday evening, and ar intervals on Sunday has been to liven up grass and crops, bub a good deal more is wanted. The crops are limiting well, and the dry weather is giving a splendid opportunity for working out. weeds. The auuual installation of tho AY.M., and investiture of officers of Lodge Mackenzie, No. 93, A.F. and A.M., was held in the Masonic Lodgo on Thursday. Tho attendance was very large. All the South Canterbury lodges were well represented, and visitors from other parts of the JDo\Y. Bro. C. Mackenzie, AV. Bro. T. Bitm.s. Prov. Grand Master, conducted the ceremony, assisted by other Prov. Grand officers, including AV. Bro. Bishop, Prov. Grand Secretary, AV. Bro. C. Mackenzie, W. Bro. I>\ Fodcn, W. Bro. S. J. Cook, and others. AV. Bro. AV. J. Halstead was installed as "W. 31. for the ensuing rear, and the following brethren ? ill th" other offices: 1.P.M., AY. Bro. \V. Stirling. P.M.: 1X31., AV. Bro. C. AV. J-itt, 1'.A1.: S.W.. Bro. AV. L. Tasking: .1.W., Bro C. Pilkington; S.D., Bio. 11. A. Inne-.lones: J'.D., Bro. D. M.Caskill: Clianlaiu, AV. Bro. J. Trotter, P.M.: Secretarv, AY. Bro. S. -). Cook. P.M.: Treasurer, AY. Bro. E. Ma.donald. P.M.: Organist, Bro. G. C. Martin: I.G . Bro. P. J. Beaton; Steward.-. Bros. .1. 11. AY. Biclu.rds. .]. Caskey and E. Samuels. M.AY., Bro. Binns." on behalf of the lodge, presented the retiring AY.M., AY. Bro. AV. Stirling, with a very handsome P.M. jewel, in appreciation of his work during the year. At the close of the lodge the Brethren, assembled in the refectory, where an excellent repast had been prepared, reflecting great crdit on the caterer, Mr AA*. J. Andrews. A couple of hours were afterwards spent very pleasantly, the usual Ma.-:onic toasts being honoured, interspersed with songs bv AV. Bro. Mcßride, Bro. G. C. Martin."C. Talbot, and a piano selection by Bro. Hammond. The additions and alterations to the Oddfellows' lodge-room are Hearing completion, and the new T room was used for the first time at a meeting held last evening. The business was an initiation, and a social hour or two were afterwards spent by the brethren. The. Tennis Club has gained a number of new playing members. A third court has been asphalted, and the other two asphalt courts have been topdressed.
