IMPURE MILK.
Dr Champtaloup, District Health Officer at Dunedin says:—'"Since I have been here I have been struck with the number of. cases of tuberculosis of various forms, and I have i.o doubt that many of these'cases are due cither to tubercular milk or to carelessness ou the part of the patients themselves."
Dr Champtaloup said that he could not give any estimate in comparison of the percentage of New Zealand eases of tuberculosis with that of the Homeland. Without the examination of the milk supply we had no means of pipping our finger directly on the cause of the high proportion. The first thing to do was to test that, and this was as much in the interests of dairymen as in the interests of the Health Deparment, because every man should wish to know whether he was supplying pure milk. Every country suffered in i respect to her milk supply. i . Or Ogstmi, late Health Officer, con- j s:dered that there was more danger -in ' .connection with the milk from the pen- '■ pie having it oxprsrd in their houses. He had'seen milk kept behind a smell- ; ing sink, and in this state the exposure , of an hour or two would do the" dam | ago. if peonle. would knep their milk ! clean H their houses, there would be j less risk. 1
