". ha coastal steamer Storm is exp«ct«.'J here about Friday, to load tor Wellington and Wangauui. The Taviuni has delayed, and le now expected here ou Saturday. The coastal steamer Ureeze was outside the port from Port Chalmers early yesterday morning, but owing to a dense fog was unablo to eifeet an entrance till nearly noou. She landed 12 tons general cargo and loaded 25 tons produce for northern parts, sailing for Lyttelton late in the afternoon.
It is reported (says the •'Press") that the well-known steamer Kipp'c is about to change owners. The vessel, which arrived at Lyttelton on Sunday from the Chatham Islands, will go into dock for "sighting," and she will be sold ■abject to her passing the irtspec-tor's BUrvey. Her new owners, if the su!e is concluded, will be Messrs Richardson and Co.. of Napier, who formerly owned the Toroa. It is utidcrsior-d that the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company, the present owners of the llipple, will fit passenger accommodation in tho Breeze, which will carry on the Lytteltou-Chatham Islands sorvici'.
A cable states that the Australasian trader, s.s. Susses reached Las Palmas after a collision with the steamer Newstead. The forepeal; is leaking and the repairs will take six days. Information has been received from Mason's Bay (Stewart Island) to the effect that a ship's boat, three lGft oars, and a boats rudder have been washed ashore there. A door with brass fittings has also come ashore. The wreckage had been in the water a considerable time, and was untraceable. Mason's Bay is open to the soutfr'ni drift of current, and has a reputation for gathering relics of tho *ea. The Waitoniata. from Newcastle, arrived at Singapore on Friday. The Aparima, from the same port, arrived at Tanjong Priok on Saturday. Both steamers are due at Calcutta about November 7.
What promises to be another spell of docking activity says the Dunutin "Star" uas inaugurated on Monday inorning by the oversea steamer Kia Ora going into dock for cleaning and painting before she goes on the Homeward loading berth. She will probably bo followed by the Kaikoura. Maitaf, Mokoia-Paparoa, Wakamii, and Otaki. The salvage work on the steamer Pericles is apparently to be a profitable venture. The latest advices from the scene state that the syndicate controlling the work has already succeeded beyond expectations, although necessarily progress was slow during the winter months, and that No. 4 hold has been opened. This is full of wool, valued at £IOO,OOO, all of which, it is stated, is easily recoverable. The bales are all intact, ami are not. seriously affected by the immersion of water. The company estimates that it will now have seven months' fine weather, during which time it hopes to be able to snE vage at least 7000 bales of wool, in addition to other cargo. The companv's expenses amount to about £6OO per month. It takes CO per cent, of the cargo recovered, and tho underwriters 40 per cent. _ The steamer Berwindmoor, which, it is believed, will be the greatest merchant coalcarrier afloat, was launched on August 8 at Middlesborough. She has been specially designed for the Havana Coal Comapny, and is the first of a fleet which will run between C'ho«igeake ports and Cuba. Her canaeity will be 8500 tons, and u sister ship will be put in hand almost immediatelv for the same owners. The vessel is a steel screw teamer, built on the HarrowayDixon cantilever principle. Her dimensions are -. Length,'42offc; beam 54ft; and depth, 2.9 ft. AUCKLAND, Oct. 25. The schooner Isabella de . Frame, which was in Timaru a short time ago, dragged her anchor during a gnle"at Kaipara Heads, on Mondav night, and grounded on the beach. She was not damaged and is expected to be towed off.
