LAKE WAKATIPU.
A NEW TOURIST STEAMER • Per Press Association. MM DUNEDIN, Oct. John McGregor and Co., of Otago Foundry, has been notified tluvtM they have secured the contract for tboJH construction of the new steamer for the Lake Wakatipu service. The vessel will be erected in the firm's yard at Dunedin, and then dismantled and railed to Kingston, and after being reerected launched here. The order for the plates, angles and raw material ; will be cabled Home almost immediately. The vessel will be a steel steamer of_ about 250 tons, with two sets of ■ triple expansion engines, capable of ' developing 1150 h.p. and a maximum | speed of 15 knots. She will he finable j of carrying from 1000 to 1500 passeng- j ers. It is expected that the vessel will ' be ready for commission in a little overj ,' a year* from tho dato of signing the oontract.
