AUCKLAND— SAN FEANCISCO. Per Press Association. : CELLING lON. August 27. Beiorc the House rose at 2.20 a.m. tliw Premier announced that the Government had made arrangements with the Union Steam Ship Company for the establishment of a 22-day steamer service between New Zealand and San rraneisco via Rurat-onga and Papeete, i wo - passenger steamers of the Aorangi tM ,( \ having cool storage and refrigerating plant, would lie enlaced and the cost would be £lO6 for the round trip. There would be 13 round trips yearly. The present Papeete ser- \ ice v. oulci be superseded m the event of the Vancouver service being established and calling at Auckland both ways. The Government would, if the San Francisco service were found satisfactory, extend the service for two with Wellington as the inward and the outward port of call. Bot-li the Canadian and Australian Governments were inviting tenders for a Vancouver .service, and until those were accepted, it would not be possible to sav whether the Dominion would be included. The present arrangement would be satisfactory and not costly, being £12.000 more than the Government was paying for the present- service. The arrangement had to be confirmed by Parlia.ment.
