The steamer lndraui, loaded with coal and ready to depart from Newcastle, was found to be on lire. It had been smouldering among the 700 tons of coal in the starboard bunker. Despite the largo quantities of water poured in. the fire, steadily gained and threatened to spread to the main cargo. Alucli gas was generated, and caused two explosions. The fire w*as finally got under.
