Mr James Perkins, a wealthy white planter, was discovered in a nude state chained to a stake in a. clearing ill a wood near Lake Charles, Louisiana. A tire was burning, and Perkins died without revealing the names of his assailants. POLICE SUSPICIONS. A BRUTAL CRIME. ROME, June 12. Mrs Castle was recently divorced, aud was on her honeymoon in Italy with her new husband, named Charlton Porter, son of a Washington Judge, who suggests that Porter also lias been murdered. The Italian police, however, are searching for him as they believe he ill-treated his wife. Mrs Castle s face and limbs bore signs of a terrible struggle after she was thrown into the lake. The police also suggest- that the murder was connected with, the mysterious discovery of the nude body of Stella. R.-?id. a California:! girl, who was recently found in tile. A FASCINATING WOMAN. Received 11 p.m. ~Tuno 13th. NEW YORK, June 13. Last Aiigust, Mrs Charlton Porter, who was a fascinating woman and a great shot, wounded her lawyer in the Yi aldorf Astoria Hotel. The, victim refused to prosecute. She was 17 years older than Charlton. Porter, who was a. youth, weakly and consumptive and incapable of murder. His letters to his wife suggest extreme jealousy. His letters to Ispalatoff incriminate the arrested Russian. The crime has j caused a sensation in America.
