RAILWAY FREIGHTS. The New York Produce Exchange complains that the New York Central and sixteen other railways, by the high, grain rates from Buffalo to New York, are diverting business to Montreal. It is expected that this will enable the province to be linked up with the New York electric tramwavs.
CHILIAN NAVY. The Chilian Chamber of Deputies has authorised a loan of £4.000.000 for the navy, whereof £1.000,000 will be devoted to coastal defence, and £400,000 voted annually will be accumulated for future naval construction.
