The steamer Prinz Waldemar brings news of a disastrous typhoon in the Japan Sea last month, which did much damage among coastal shipping an d fishing craft. At Hong Kong many vessels were lost, and the death roll is heavy.

Big storms were also experienced in tho Carolines, and several island vessels are missing. ' The YTaklemar picked up five native castaways, part of the crew of an island vessel which was swept out to sea. Thev stated that the captain was the oniy white man on board, and that he jumped overboard and was drowned. The castaways were eight days without food, and suflered terrible privations.
