CRICKET.

TIMARTJ C Y. SOUTH END. The above match commenced yesterday afternoon on a wicket good though somewhat sodden by rain. Winning the toss Cox for Timaru elected to bat and accompanied Gresson to the wickets. Disaster came early, Gresson dragging one i.nto his wickets with the score at 18. Cox foolishly ran himself out without auy addition to the score. Bain and Fisher altered the aspect of the game, however, carrying the score to 80 before Bain also dragged one oji to his wicket. Fisher left shortly afterwards, being clean bowled in attempting a big hit off Kane. Tennent and Guinness then got going and carried the score to 150, Guinness being caught at cover in attempting a big hit. Tennent was yorked by Cave. Rain then came on and play was abandoned for the day. Fisher headed the score with 34. Though a trifle lucky he played a lot of- good bowling. Tennent, with an equal number, batted very solidly, but at the same time was very severe on anything loose. Bain with 29 played very sound cricket. Each of the above three hit one out of the ground. Guinness 22, executed some very pretty off-drives, while Gresson with 14 looked like getting a good many more. Kane was the best of the bowlers and troubled most of the batsmen. SouthEnd fielding was rather patchy at times. The following are the details: TIMARTJ Gresson, played on, b Douglas ... 14 Cox, run out . 3 Fisher, b Kane 34 Bain, played on, b Kane 29 Guinuess, c Latimer, b Cave 22 Glasgow, not out 4 Tement, b Cave 34 Raymond, not out 0 Extras 15 Total for 6 wickets 100 Bowling analysis.—Moore 0 for 40, Douglas 1 for 47, Kane 2 for 47, Cave 2 for 6. _
