BOY BURNED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 20., Roy Masters, aged two years, a soil of Mr Masters, a bootmaker, died from burns, the result of his night dress catching fire. DETERMINED SUICIDE. WHANGAREI, Nov. 20. Alfred Letford, a hairdresser, about 37 years of age, committed suicide at 3 p.m. in/ a small room behind his saloon by shooting himself with a service rifle. The muzzle had evidently been placed under his chin, the bullet issuing at the top of his head. Financial troubles were assigned as the cause. Deceased, who came to Whangarei in February last year from Fiji, leaves a wife and five children. That Letford tried last week unsuccessfully to dispose of the same rifle for £2 suggests that he brooded over the use of it on himself. A JOCKEY'S DEATH. WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. At the inquest on the body of Jack Roberts, a verdict was returned that lie died from a bullet wound self inflicted. Evidence was given that he had attended the .Grand National meeting, and since his arrival in Wellington had spent £4O in three days. No cause was assigned for the act. DROWNED AT THE FORD. HOKITIKA, Nov. 20. Mrs Thomas Ferguson, a well-known settler at Mt. • Hercules, South Westland, was accidentally drowned when fording the Mikonui River on foot ljisfc night. Tho body was recovered and taken to Ross, where an inquest will be held. DEATH ON THE ROAD. CHRTSTCHURCH, Nov. 21. Miss Teresa Power, aged 32 years, second daughter of Mr John Power, of Woodgrove, Mason's Flat, was found dead on Saturday at 4 a.m. on the Waitohi Gorge road by a shepherd named Gray. FOUND DEAD IN BED. DUNEDIN, Nov. 21. A widow named Eliza Cheyne, living at Mosgiel, was found dead iu bed this morning. When" she retired last night she was apparently in her usual state of health. Deceased 'was 71 years of age.
