Rowing Notes.

(By Sliding Seat.)

The crews for the Regatta Fours, Senior and Junior, have not been picked vet. The committee decided to extend the date of closing till to-day. All members who intend to enter must do so without delay. So far there are about thirty m-mes on the sheet, but as soon as the crews to represent the club at outside regattas are finally selected, several more names will be placed on the list.

Last Monday night the selectors were asked to pick" two crews from twelve men. They finally decided to let the crew that represented the club against Oatnaru remain, and that Messrs Malthus, Roberts, Rcid and Bridges be asked to form the other crew to go inot training. These two crews will race some time next week, when the final selection will be made. Members may not be aware of it but any crew selected can be challenged by any other crew in the shed. The Youths' crew have lost the service of E. Berry, who has been on the sick list. W. Tait has taken his place. The change ought to make very little difference in the crew. When Berry has quite recovered he will be asked to keep in training with W. Aitken for the Youths' scnlls or pairs. C. Bradley and D. Smith have been selected as Maiden Sculls. The latter has been away for about a week, but Bradley tells me he is expected home any day now, when they intend to go into the clinker.

The Youths* are shaping very well •tnd are a much improved crew compared with the crew that rowed at Oamarn. Three's body swing is much better but he still twists about when pnlJing the oar through tho water. As 'oon as two gains confidence he will hnd it much easier. The how and stroke are rowing very well. As soon as he has finished his stroke, then come slowly up on his slide. The great mistake the local hoys have is rashin" the slide forward. The bodv is not moved nutfl the hands are over the Knees, then yon rome slowlv np on the slide with a straight arm and as soon as yon find yourself right out. throw »tS£ R % tne J T ater , a* qiiMdv as possible.
