LABOUR.
THE STATE MINERS. Per Press Association. GREYMOUTH, Nov. 19. Rumours arc freely in circulation that the State miners arc contemplating ceasing work unless the manager accedes to their requests. A representative, of the "Argus" interviewed Mr Bishop, the manager, this evening and he states that there is no iountlation for -such rumours. Ho is still in conference, with the men and is hopeful of an amicable settlement being arrived at on Monday or Tuesday. RAILWAY DISMISSALS. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov 19. At a. general meeting of the Canterbury Branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants held on Wednesday, the following resolution was carried —That this meeting regrets that artisans and others are being dismissed from the Government workshops thereby causing a, large amount of valuable machinery to lie practically idle, while at the same time work which would employ both the said machinery and the employees whose- services have been dispensed with, lias been let to private firms; the meeting considers that members of Parliament for Canterbury should urge upon the Government the necessity of putting work in hand which would provide employment for those being discharged,
