BURNHAM.
To tho Editor of the 'Timaru Herald.' s ' r > —l have just arrived at Waihi, where the "Timaru Herald," of Octoben 2nd was waiting me. It contained an article on the Burnham Industrial School by an "Anglo-New Zealander." Though late I hope you will find space for my honest remarks on the said article, which I read with feelings of deep'gratitude to the writer for giving tho public his clear unbiassed opinions about the management of the school, and the working of tho large stoney farm. There is an old maxim that says "honour to whom honour is due," and certainly. honour belongs to tho indefatigable manager, Air T. Archey, and his unassuming good wife for the lifting up tone of the Burnham Industrial school. All the officers under their direction, from the highest to the lowest seem to dovetail into eacli other's duties to make tho institution a bright spot for the boys who aro sent there for redemption. I know them well, though I don't know "Anglo-New Zealandcr," but I wish to add my testimony to the truthfulness of his article, from tho beginning to "hlio end of it. I have spent many happy hours at the school, watching its various workings and enjoying its religions services in the pretty littlo church, both on Sundays and week days. I have also been with them in" their sport and play at Burnham, and on the Quail Island, where they enjoy themselves immensely when there at "their annual campingout holiday. I trust the general public read the article, and digested it well, and so got into their minds and hearts the true state of affairs about the working of the Dominion's Industrial School at Burnham,—l am, etc., THOMAS JEFCOATE.
