AMATEUR CLUB'S MEETING. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov, 9. Despite an exceedingly disagreeable gale there was a big attendance at the Wellington, Amateur Athletic Club's sports on the basin reserve this afternoon. Amongst those present were His Excellency the Governor, Archbishop Redwood, the Hon. A. P.. Guinness (Speaker of the House), the Mayor of Wellington (Dr A. K. Newman), and several members of Parliament. The 100 yards handicap was won by ft. H. Dawson syds; the half mile by J. F. Wilson scr; the 120 hurdles by A. Eveuson owe 10yds; mile run by P. B. Heffer 35yds;" 330 yards by F. C. Hubbard 12yds; polo vault by A. Evenson (in this event R. McKay jumped only Oft 9in compared with his lift lin at Hobart last year). Great interest was taken in the Marathon! race from Wellington to. Taita and back, a distance of 2G miles 385 yards. There were 10 starters, namely, W. Bennett (Wellington Harriers)," F. Delancy (W.A.A.C.), P. J. Fitzgerald (W.A.A.C.), C. R. Lamberg (Wellington Harriers), M. MuJcahy (P.N.A.A.C.), J. Reid (Auckland), H." Thompson (W.A.A.C.), AV. F. Simnson (Canterbury), AV. H. Press (Wellington Harriers), G. J. AVilkins (Christchurch). At Ngahauranga Reid was leading, Mulcahy following, Fitzgerald being in third place and I'rcss running'fourth. At Petone. Reid was leading, Mulcahy second, Fitzgerald third, and the rest bunched. G. Reid still led at Lower Hutt, Mulcahy in second place, but Bennett had superseded Fitzgerald. At Taita Reid was still leading, but at Lower Hutt on the return ourney Thompson had assumed the lead with Fitzgerald second and Simpson third. At Petone Hie position was —Thompson 1, Fitzgerald 2. Bennett 3, Simpson 4. From this out Thompson had the race in hand, and of those who completed the course tbe result and times are as follows: — Hrs. Mins. Sees. Thompson 2 58 23 Simpson 3 4 20 Bennett 3 S 5 Press .: 3 31 41 Lambery 3 25 li Thompson's time eclipsed the Australasian record by 52.2-ssec. He also won the scaled handicap.
