' News has heen received at Temuka announcing the death in South' Australia of Mr George. Mbrley, an old Temuka .: boy, and one time ,member of the local post and telegraph office. Ho was a brother of Mris Seigert, of Cricklevood, and- Miss Morley, Temuka. A large number of Temuka cyclists are in active training for the TimaruChristchurch road race which is to take place next month.The Rev. Mr Pattison, of Waipukura'u, is at present conducting evangelistic services at the Presbyterian Church, Temuka, and , large numbers are availing themselves of the opportunity to hear him preach on the question of the revival in Teligion which is taking place throughout the .Dominion at the present time. "~ A very successful concert was held in. the Volunteer Hall, Temuka, last night, the proceeds of which are to be devoted to the Arovhenua Native School. The following contributed items:—Misses Beri, Gapper, Aspiuall, Twomey and Sim, Mesdaraes . Salmon and James, Salmon, V. Coira, \Y. Pearse, and D. Cuvetisi A number of Maoris performed a hnka and several very pretty poi dances. The performance concluded with a farcical comedy, entitled "Who Won?" in which the following sustained the principal parts: Misses Aspinall (2), Mrs James and Mr W. Pearse. Mr Chatfield and Miss Freeman will address a public meeting at Temuka 'on this night'week on the objects and aims of the National Defence League. V At the Temuka miniature ritte snooting club's, fixture on Friday last 31 members competed for Sergeant.Saunders trophy and some good shooting was recorded. The leading scores were —Private B. Mills (6) 7u, Private J. Saunders (6) ,70, Private F. Tozer (12)' 70, Private R. Duncan (10) 69, Private C. Niles (3) 67, Private V. Nicholas (4), 67. r .The'annual meeting of the Temuka Tennis Club was held on Monday night and there was a large attendance presided over by Dr. Crawshaw. The secretary, Mr'W. Pearse, submitted the annual report and balance sheet, which were adopted. The following officers - were elected:—Patron, Mr E. James; president,- Dr Crawsliaw; vicepresidents, Mrs Ashwell, aud Mr Feilden; secretary, and treasurer, Mr W. Pearse: croquet secretary, Mr T. Joynt; committee, Mesdames Wareing and Brown, Misses Guild and Paterson, Messrs- A. Guild, Brad more and Dr Curtis;'delegate to the Sports -Association, 3lr W. H. Browri: Jt was decided- to open the season on Saturday, October 9th. /Lieutenant-Colonel Beckingham will inspect the. Temuka. sßifle. Volunteers in the Drill "Hall/to-night,"- and at the conclusion Lieutenant \V.
