Per Frew Association. WANGANUI, August 27. The Caledonian Society held their inaugural annual banquet this evening, and it was a great success. The visitors who were present from all parts of the Dominion included Hon. Tiros. McKenzie, Mr R. D. D. McLean (Hawke's Bay), Messrs Jennings and. Dive M.P. and others. WELLINGTON, August 27. David Anderson and Son, grocers, were charged at the Police Court today with rolling liquor in less quantities than two gallons. -The liquor was ginger ale, which was found to contain 34.19 per cent, of alcohol. A fine of 20s and costs was imposed. Defendants said they acted unwittingly. A deputation of milk vendors waited on the Minister for Health todav, and complained that they had no"knowledge as to how the analysis ot milk was made. The Government analvst gave a technical explanation, and "the Minister said that with the object of assisting the milk vendors to keep "up the standard, an analysis ot milk supplied would be made at intervales so long as it was not availed of too much. HOKITIKA, August 27. The Westland County Council yesterdav resolved that with a view to according Sir Joseph Ward an official welcome on his return to the Dominion from the Imnerial Conference, the 3 r avors and County Chairmen of the West Coast be invited to visit Wellington on the occasion of the Prime Minister's return to join the public- reception to be accorded the Premier.
