AIHHNGTOX STOCK MARKET. Per Press Association. CHEISTCELCTtCH, August 25. Sheep.—The yarding of store sheep •was somewhat larger than, last week, and was principally made up of ewes, the balance heing hoggets and a. few pens of -wethers. There not much demand, and prices generally showed a slight decline: Ewes were principally inferior sorts, only two or three pens being average. Two-tooth crossbred ewes made 14s 4d, two-tooth halfbreds of medium quality 13s 3d, two. four six and eight-tooth crossbreds 12s 6d to 14s, six-tooths 13s 6d, soundmonth ewes 10s to 12s, aged 9s to 10s, and small and inferior 7s 2d, a few aged ewes with lambs were passed at 7s 4d (all counted), good ewe hoggets 12s to 13s, mixed sexes (good) 10s to 30s 6d, and medinm sorts 8s 9d to 9s 6d; Down cross hoggets were passed at 10s 3d. and wethers sold at 8s to lis Bd. There were 18 new Reason's fat lambs penned, and they sold at 14s to 18s. There was a large entry of fat sheep, including some pens of prime heavy weight wethers, and what few fat- hoggets were entered were placed in the fat sheep pens. At the opening of the sale there was fair competition among the butchers. Prices showed a decline on the previous week's rates, and as the factories are closed, it was expected that values would recede when butchers' requirements were satisfied. A West Coast buyer who operated largely saved the "situation, and prices kept well up to opening rates, though several lines were passed. The Tange of prices was: —Extra prime wethers 19s to 20s Id, prime wetihers las to 18s 6d, others 12s Gel-to 14s Gd, prime ewes 14s to 16*s. others lis to 13s Gd, hoggets 12s 8d to 13s 3d, merino wethers 14s 6d. Cattle. —There was an entry of 2.1 fat cattle, and as this number was below the average yardings. there was more briskness in the bidding, though «is is usual, several pens at the opening; of. the sale were passed in until values, according to sellers' ideas, were established, and the passed in lots were afterwards disposed of. The quality of the yarding was of fair average. Steers made £6 10s to £ll ss, heifers £8 to £9 2s 6d, and cows £-4 17s 6d to £8 10s. equal to 20s to 22s 6d for prime, 18s Gd to 20s for medium, and 16s 6(1 -io 18s for cow and inferior beef, per lOOlbs. Calves sold at 4s Gd to £3 15s. A small yarding of store cattle was made up principally of dry cows.
