Brown wrote that the sewage drain running through his timber yard was leaking, and as there was a danger, of typhoid lie wished it .seen to. —The works committee were empowered to deal with it at once. It was decided that the water table in Kirkett strreot, which becomes choked in heavy rain, be attended In by the overseer. A petition was presented by Councillor Watson on behalf of eight ratepayers, who asked for a lamp to lie erected at the north end of IJirkett street, and the matter was referred to the lighting committee. The finance committee reported that the district fund pay-sheet amounted to £lll 4s lOd, and the drainage extension account to £315 lis, and these were passed for payment. The total rents outstanding amounted to £-13 9s Od, and receipts from all sources to £lO7 8s 2d. The certified valuation roll totals £15,536. Councillor Holwell, for the works committee, reported that, they had inspected the places referred to .them, namely, the junction of Denmark and John street, and reported that if the ends are kept clean the pipes are large enough to take away all the water likely to come down the side of the street. They recommended that the crossing in Davie street be lengthened to the full width of tne street.

The overseer's report was read and: adopted, and it was decided that the culvert at the corner of Alexandra and John streets be taken up and relaid, as. suggested by the overseer, and the oivner of willows which arc damaging the drain pipes at a. property at the junction of King and Fraser streets is to be asked to attend to same. It was resolved that the transfer of lease of sections 115, 116, 129 and 130 be agreed to, provided the arrears of rent and costs are paid. The Mayor pointed out that gorseand broom were growing upon some of the Council's reserves, especially along the fences, and owners had taken no notice of warnings sent. He suggested that the Council should take the matter in hand and charge the owners with the rost. If the owners had not time to do it, this would be a means of providing work in the slack time of the year. The pay-sheets of the Arowhenu© Domain Board, £2; Temuka Domain Board, £35 12s (3d; and Arowhcnua Cemetery Board, ;ClO Is Bd, were passed for payment, and the Council rose.
