AUCKLAND, July 18. During tho past week 223 unemployed have registered their names at the Auckland Office of tho Labour Department, 75 boing married men (with 2CO persons dependent upon them) and 148 being single. The number is less than during some previous weeks when as many as 300 signed tho book. During last week 37 were sent to work by the Department, 20 being despatched to the Gisborno railway works, whilst 17 were sent to private employment. CITIZENS TO THE RESCUE. CHRISTCHURCH, July 17. Private subscriptions aro subsidised only when the expenditure on national work is approved."
