Schools was decided on tlie Athletic ground yesteroay, ana proved to be an easy win for the home team whose forward division showed themselves a superior lot to the visitors, though otherwise the teams appeared fairly evenly matched. Shortly after the whistle went Valentine scored tor Timaru and failed to convert, (3-70). Thou tho Ashburtonites retaliated and had the Blues in difficulties for a few minutes, but the defence was too good and the leather gravitated towards the Yellow's line, and R. Cuthbert crossed, adding another 3 points to the Blue score; as the try ' was unconverted. From some line out work Rollit, for Ashburtbn, nearly scored and Lad an unsuccessful pot at goal. A dribbling rush by Timaru brought them again in a favourable position, but the wliistlo for half time blew. On (resuming the visitors brightened up a little and rushed, but it- was momentary and almost immediately afterwards McSweeney scored.after a splendid forward rush, and Valentie added the major points (11 —0). Ashburton's defence grew weak mid twice more McSweeney in quick succession scored, neither try being converted (17 —0.) and shortly afterwards Simmers scored, Valentine converting (22 —0\ The last try was notched by Cuthbert and Valentino piloted the leather over the bar, the gamp ending Timaru 27, Ashburton 0.
