A deputation, of ladies, representing a large number of residents of Moryen andGlenavy districts, waited on the Trustees with business of a . pleasant and unexpected nature. . Dr. JJarclay acted as the spokesman for the deputation, and said: that as a : mark of gratitude for services received at the hospital,' the ladies had made a.canvass of residents in. their district, with the result that they had collected £lo 10s, which they proposed to donate to the hospital funds, for the purpose:of purchasing a couple of invalid chairs, so that patients could be wheeled out into the sunshine when in, a state of convalescence. The speaker said that the Board would get a subsidy of 24s to the £ from the Government on the donation. The names of the deputation were Mesdames Wm. Lindsay and G. Duncan, ' and Mrs P. Tan was present as the representative of the natives.. > - The chairman said that the deputation was the most unique one in all his experience of Hospital Beard management. They had many times had people at the meetings witli requests for one thing or another, but seldom, had any come on such a pleasing and acceptable errand as that of the ladies present that afternoon. On behalf of the Board, lie tendered them' their sincere thanks for the generous gift, which' would I>e expended in the purchase of chairs, or wheeled beds, for the benefit of patients He mentioned that another deputation of a like nature would be always warmly received. Mr Bitcliener said that he wouM like to see the gift strictly earmarked for the rse of the female patients. So far as his experience went, he thought there were mors comforts and conveniences for men at the hospital than for the women. After one or two other members of the Board had voiced their thanks, the deputation withdrew, with the assurance that a plate suitably inscribed would be placed on any articles purchased-. The town members of the Board
were appointed a/committee to. maVe the purchases of chairs .or beds with the funds- presented by the deputation. ' MEDIfCAL OFFICER'S REPORT. The medical officer reported tiiai patients- under treatment at date of last return were, .''our males and five females; admitted during the month, seven males, tour females; total treat Sod, eleven males, uine females. During the month seven males and five, females . were; discharged cured, «ne female was' discharged incurable there remained under treatment four males' and three females. _ Mr Bitehener, -for; the visiting committee, reported that everything was satisfactory at the hospital. He brought up the übject of. the hours nurses had to work, which. he thought too long. He believed that they were employed about nhirteeii hours a day, and it was too much to expect of a girl, who had a •■onsiderable amount of. study to do : as. well. ' Tlie chairman was, deputed fo enquire into this question and report later. , - , Dr. Barclay was appointed _to arrange the- hours during Ajjbich the nurses should sit for their. fort.icoming examination in anatomy and physiology. Accounts amounting to £l2O were passed for payment, and the Board rose. - - '
