STEEPLECHASES AT WAIMATE. The - annual point-to-point <-teeplechates. of the Waimate Hunt took place yesterday under ideal weather conditions over the property of Mr Studliolme, Te Waimate. A number ot enthusiasts from Tiniaru went down to witness tfce races, and seven horses from this district also went down. These seven brought back two firsts, one second, and one third prize. The course for the heavy and light weights (run together) was about 31 miles as originally marked out, but about halt a mile of it had to be cut out on account of the "heavy going. The course was over good hunting country, and spectators obtain«l a good view of the race. Mr T. Twomey acted as starter, Mr L. Glendinning was clerk of the scales, and the '.udges were Messrs J.. H Rhodes, B. D. Whitney and J. S. Rutherford. There were four races, and the results were as follows: — HEAVY WEIGHTS, for trophies value £3 3s and t:2 2s, presented by Major Lindsav. Miss E. M. Rhodes' Buzzler (Mr C.

Orbell) ' Mr Y. Elworthy's Liberty (Owner) -' Mr J. B. Boivkers Bangle (Owner) 3 Puzzler took command about four fences from home, and racing in beautiful style, came in an easy winner by five or "six lengths from Liberty. TROTTIXG CLUB. A committee, meeting of the TrottinClub was iield in the Stone Stables last night. Present: Messrs J. Sinclair (iii; tho chair), jr. C. Watson, J. Hole, \\. Cookson, J. Gilehirst, J. Robertson, H. Scarf and H-. H. Eraser (.secretary).

The chairman reported than in accordance with instruction the sub-com-mittee had visited the racecourse with a surveyor (Mr Thompson), and laid out thu proposed new track. They Jiad agreed to give the survevor £3 3s lor the work if it was satisfactorily performed, out of which one guinea was to Jw given to Mr Trilford, who also assisted. Unfortunately a good deal of work done by the surveyor had not been Quito what was -wanted, consequently, the sub-committee recommended that the fee bo reduced to ~- -■=• —The recommendation was tequently the sub-c-ommitteo recommended that tho new six furlong track, which was now correct to within seven links, bo graded and levelled with a road grader.—lt was decided to hire a road .grader and team for the purpose.

Air P. Mitten wrote in strong terms complaining of what he termed the secretary's incivility in declining to send him tickets for the race meeting, liecause lie had not paid his subscription.

It was resolved that Mr Mitten he written to and informed that the secretary was only carrying out the rules of the club in acting as lie did, and that the club thoroughly endorse and supjKirt his action. The/ club expect Mr Mitten to apologise, for the tone of his letter.

.Dr C. E. Thomas regretfully resigned his position as honorary surgeon a.s the rules of the British Medical Association do not allow medical -practitioners to accept honorary positions. —The resignation was accepted with regret. The secretary of the New Zealand Trotting Association wrote stating that the nomination for candidates for seats on the Board of Management of the Association were due before July 20th. —As the club were satisfied with the present constitution of the Board it was decided not to nominate anyone. The chairman read a roivb draft of the halance-shef;t and report, which will he presented at the annual meeting to be held on July oth. The financial statement showed a credit h'dance of £lOl 0s 7d, of which £OO was on fixed deposit: the rolL showed that there were 123 members and £lB5 had been given in stakes. Several members of the committee spoke appreciatively of the. report and the club's position and it -was decided to have the documents printed, with a few slight amendments, for circulation among members. It was stated that Messrs Mnnroand Mora had resigned from the committee, consequently the election of two members to fill the vacancies, will he held at the annual meeting.
