v AT PALMERSTON NORTH. I'er Press Association. PALMERSTON N., June 24. The, third day of tiie National Dairy Show was dull as to weather, but crowded as to attendance. Lady Plunket addressed, a large audience of women in the Lecture Hall on the Society for. the Promotion of the Health of Women and Children, afterwards entertaining them at afternoon tea. The chief events of the day were the ring competitions. A. M. Kidd won the pony leaping, and G. Shaw's Kaka won the maiden hunters. The takings at the first three days of the show havo been £sll, which is .£IOO more than on the first three days of the 1008 show.' In the evening at the annual smoke concert, Mr Buick, M.P., who proposed the toast of the Agricultural Department denied that he had ever said anything against the department. Mr Kirk in responding, referred to Mr Buiek's criticism on blight being allowed on some apple trees at Wereroa, explaining that it was left there on purpose for experiments. Various sneakers referred to dairy inspection, declaring it to be necessary.
