A STARTLING POSITION. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, June 21. Some /friction has, occurred, locally in connection with the contract fur delivery of State coal. Last year and this year Mr Purdie, coal merchant and carter, was the successful ' tenderer. At (i o'clock last night Mr Purdie received notice from the president of the Coal Merchants' Association that if he accepted a "tender for the delivery, of State coal he would lose his position as a member of the Association. It appears that the Coalmine Owners Association 'recently intimatd to the Merchants' Association that members of the- later body supplied by the former should not deal in State coal, and to this the Merchants' Association eventually agreed. Mr Pn'rdie states ho is determined to accept the contract.
